Darvin Ham gets teased for calling late game timeout
Darvin Ham received a lot of credit for taking last year’s Lakers from 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals. Of course, the 2022-2023 NBA season was highly unusual. The Lakers didn’t have a dramatic turnaround. They improved enough to post a 43-39 record. As a result, they earned the seventh seed, via the play-in. With Ja Morant out, they upset the Grizzlies, then the Warriors, and got swept by the Nuggets. This year, the Lakers won the In-Season Tournament championship. Tonight, they lost to the Mavericks and Darvin Ham called a timeout after the game was decided.
Darvin Ham came to the Lakers, after Frank Vogel was fired. Ham was a former player, best-known for his time with the Milwaukee Bucks. He only played nine years and competed against LeBron James. In spite of Vogel leading the Lakers to a title, the team fell apart in 2022. As a result, Vogel was fired, and then Darvin Ham was hired. His time as the Lakers’ coach has gotten mixed reviews. Tonight, the fan base is against him.
Darvin Ham receives criticism for not changing his strategies, when he sees they’re not working. As a result, fans often go in on him on social media. Tonight, the Lakers lost at home to the Dallas Mavericks, in their first game since winning the In-Season Tournament championship. However, once the Mavericks clearly won this game, Ham called a timeout. The Lakers were down five with two seconds left in the game. Fans have given him a hard time on social media.
