The star people say New York City needs has been staring them right in the eye, for quite some time. Harlem rapper, Dave East, has been making noise for a while. His momentum grew and it earned him a co-sign from Nas, who quickly signed him to Mass Appeal.

Dave East saw continued success and Def Jam soon entered the picture, for a joint venture deal. Here, Dave East has continued to shine, leading up to Survival, his debut album. Last week, Dave East dropped his album to much fanfare.

However, initial reports had low projections for Dave East’s first week, which can be dismaying. Thankfully, projections do not equal reality, as the official first week sales are in. Survival debuted at number eleven on the Billboard album charts, with 24,000 first week sales, including 3,000 physical sales, for a solid debut.
