Drake talks Jay-Z’s “big homie” line on “Pound Cake” with MTV News [VIDEO]

Drake 24Ever since the Thank Me Later days, Drake has received comparisons to Jay-Z. It is clear Jay-Z cannot and will not ever be replaced, but Drake filled the role of someone like him with the music for the 2010s. While Drake received the Jay-Z comparisons, his North Carolina counterpart, J. Cole, received comparisons to Nas.

Drake is big on respecting the history of hip hop, so he reached out to the legends to contribute to Thank Me Later. On Take Care, Drake continued this trend and he keeps it going on Nothing Was The Same. Jay-Z returns on Nothing Was The Same, closing out the final two verses on the album on “Pound Cake.”

On the song, Jay-Z throws a friendly jab at Drake over the “big homie” line. For years, it has been Jay-Z who was known as hip hop’s big homie. Drake adopted the title in his absence and Jay-Z sent a subtle reminder which he talked about in his latest interview with MTV News.
