Effie tells Cane about Lauren and angers Power viewers
In “Power” discussions, it’s often said that Effie (Alix Lapri) cannot be trusted. When she was introduced, Effie called Tariq (Michael Rainey, Jr.) for dealing at Choate. Quickly, it was revealed Effie was, too. Soon, Tariq and Effie began working together, and then she got him expelled when she reported him for dealing.
Tariq returned for the fallout of “Power” season six, ending with Ghost (Omari Hardwick) dying. With Ghost gone, Tariq is now the “Power” protagonist. While the show continues the “Power” timeline, it’s actually a spinoff. During season one, Effie returned, and Tariq had choice words for her. In the end, they left on good terms, as Effie told Tariq he was a monster.
At the time, Tariq was trying to impress Lauren (Paige Hurd). In “Power Book II: Ghost” season two, Tariq and Lauren finally got together. Throughout this time, Tariq has still had Effie and Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) on the side. This season, Tariq slept with all three women. With Lauren wearing the wire, Tariq moved on from her. However, Tariq told Effie about the entire situation, angering many fans. Almost immediately, Effie ran to Cane (Woody McClain) telling him all about Lauren. This sparked backlash from “Power” fans towards Effie.
