Kansas City mayor says Ralph Yarl was a victim of existing while Black

Kansas City mayor says Ralph Yarl was a victim of racial profiling

The shooting of Ralph Yarl has been among the biggest stories this week. Many people have had a lot to say about what happened. Most people feel more should be done to punish Andrew Lester. After all, this man shot Yarl twice just for walking to his door. However, Lester made claims that he was in fear of his life. Now, Kansas City’s mayor, Quinton Lucas, has spoken out. He said Yarl’s only crime was “existing while Black.”

There are many divides in this nation, which cause the ongoing issues. While many acknowledge what’s wrong, others divert attention. Instead of blaming the people committing the crimes, they blame the media for reporting it. These types of baseless claims do nothing when a sixteen year old child is laid up and fighting for his life. In actuality, Ralph Yarl should be at school, preparing for the end of his junior year of high school.

Ralph Yarl was in Andrew Lester’s neighborhood, mistakenly. He had the wrong address, while trying to pick up his younger siblings. As he went through his misfortune, which was him being shot in his head and his arm, he ran for help. The first few houses he went to for help turned him away. During that span of time, Yarl was alone. However, Kansas City’s mayor, Quinton Lucas, is speaking up for him. Not only did he say the shooting was “racially motivated,” he called it “existing while Black.”
