Over the years, Kanye West has mastered the art of the comeback. Right when many forget about him, West comes back and reminds people why he is so-discussed to begin with. Aside from the music and the promotion for Watch the Throne, Kanye West has been rather silent since the release of his last album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The album was met with critical acclaim, as West laid out his emotions over the beats on the album.
In the time since then, Kanye West has been focused on his mogul business. For years, Kanye West has been the head of his own label, G.O.O.D. Music. The label has boasted a small roster of talent, but lacked a secure distribution deal. Big Sean was signed to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam in 2009 and his success in 2011 paired with Kanye West’s longtime relationship with Def Jam led to him signing an exclusive distribution deal with the iconic label.
After the deal with Def Jam, Big Sean announced G.O.O.D. Music would have a compilation album in the works, while Kanye West was trying to sign French Montana. Weeks ago, Kanye West was in Cannes and was revealed to be working on a short film. Kanye West pulled off the ultimate surprise when it was revealed the short film would go along with the album, both of which would be called Cruel Summer. Since then, Big Sean has been discussing the project when he makes his media rounds, saying he will have a prominent role in the movie and will have more movie roles.
