Lupe Fiasco is one of the most gifted lyricists in hip hop’s modern era. He even showed potential of being a crossover superstar, some time ago. Of course, the path Lupe Fiasco was attempting to follow was created by Ja Rule. While he wasn’t the first rapper to make pop ballads, Ja Rule definitely patented it. Recently, Lupe Fiasco had the chance to meet Ja Rule for the first time. Not only did he tell Rule he was his favorite rapper, he also said Billboard should have had him on the list.
Lupe Fiasco debuted in 2006, a year after Ja Rule’s dominant run ended. During that time, hip hop was in transition. Boasting co-signs from Kanye West and Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco prepared to take the baton. However, there were personal and professional issues that slowed Lupe down. Several times, he threatened to retire from rap. After 2013, Lupe Fiasco silently did step away from the rap game. The summer of 2011 is the closest he came to reaching his potential.
Lupe Fiasco now enjoys his status as an OG and legend in the game. After much resistance, Ja Rule also now boasts a similar position in the industry. Apparently, Lupe Fiasco was meeting Ja Rule in person for the first time. Lupe spoke for many, when he told Rule he was his favorite rapper of all-time. He said he grew up on his music, so he is the GOAT. In addition, Lupe told Ja to ignore the haters, as he deserved to be on Billboard’s list, too.
