Man who Mike Tyson punched on flight, Melvin Townsend III, gets a lawyer, but hasn’t decided if he’ll sue Tyson

Melvin Townsend III undecided on suing Mike Tyson after fight on flight

Boxing legend Mike Tyson had the internet going crazy, after he was seen on video punching a man. This was during his flight from San Francisco to Miami. This man had reportedly taken photos with Tyson, but soon began speaking constantly behind his seat, and even allegedly threw a water bottle at Tyson.

The victim has since been identified as Melvin Townsend III. He has some bloodied areas on his face, as he went on to speak to police after the incident. According to TMZ, he has hired a lawyer, as well. Townsend also denies that he threw the water bottle at Tyson.

“Our client is a big Mike Tyson fan,” explained Matt Morgan of Morgan & Morgan, to TMZ. “When Mike Tyson boarded the plane, he became overly excited. At first, their interaction was cordial.  At a certain point, Mr. Tyson clearly became agitated by an overly excited fan and began to strike him in an excessive manner. This situation could have been avoided simply by contacting the flight attendant. Our client denies throwing a water bottle prior to being struck by Mr. Tyson. To state the obvious, as one of the greatest fighters of all time, Mr. Tyson should have exercised greater restraint before using his hands on an overly excited fan.”

It’s still unclear if Townsend will decide to file a lawsuit, though. A source told TMZ that he is still in shock and hasn’t determined his next steps. They added that Townsend “hired counsel due to his physical injuries, the overwhelming nature of this event and the associated media inquiries.”

Tyson had taken photos and spoken with other fans on that flight, with no issues. Tyson went to Miami to speak at the Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference, but missed that, due to the incident. He did got to the afterparty at LIV though, with Rick Ross and Ric Flair.
