Married couple learns they’re cousins after 17 years together

As of late, there is an increase in people wanting to learn their ancestry. While this is a good thing, many are discovering they are closer related than they imagined. By virtue of getting married, a person’s spouse becomes their next of kin. For a Colorado couple, they learned even if they weren’t married, they were still relatively close kin. After taking the DNA test, a woman discovered her husband was on her family tree.

There couldn’t be anything much worse than discovering one’s spouse is also their family. Most people don’t intend to get romantically involved with their families. However there are some people who see nothing wrong about it. Most societies do, however, as there are laws against people marrying their cousins. In the case of this couple, they did not realize they were related, when they first got married. A test provided those details.

In July 2006, Celina and Joseph Quinones decided they would get married. By 2016, they had a ten year marriage and welcomed three children. Just for kicks, Celina decided to take a DNA test to learn about her ancestry. To her dismay, she learned Joseph shared her family tree. This meant they were cousins. Initially, Celina considered filing for divorce. However, she and Joseph had a discussion, considering their marriage and kids. Ultimately, they decided a little blood should not come between their union.
