The Michael Jackson biopic is generating a big buzz as more details surface. Earlier this month Lionsgate confirmed a new biopic simply titled Michael, detailing the life and controversy of the late icon. The film directed by Antoine Fuqua, will have Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson portraying him throughout the biopic. Jaafar Jackson is the son of Jermaine Jackson, who is the brother of Michael Jackson and a member of The Jackson 5.
Michael Jackson’s legacy is one that continues to reach new generations. Since his 1979 breakout solo album Off The Wall, he’s broken worldwide records and is still making history to this day. The album Thriller released in 1982 still holds the title as the highest selling album of all-time. His 1987 album Bad also broke the record for one of the highest selling albums ever. Adding to his iconic status, the videos for Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean are credited for helping MTV become successful. Michael has won fifteen Grammys, twenty-four American Music Awards, and twenty Guinness World Records throughout his career. He is also one of the few artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
Despite public scrutiny followed by negative accusations, Michael’s journey to becoming the King of Pop is a story worth telling. With Michael’s nephew Jaafar taking on the role, this film holds a special connection to the Jackson family. Jaafar who is also a talented singer and dancer, shows his gratitude by posting a dedication to his famous uncle via Instagram.
