Kanye West sued by mother of George Floyd’s child
Over the weekend, Kanye West caught a lot of criticism online, for his “Drink Champs” interview. He continued to spread anti-Semitic comments, as as well as insensitive remarks about George Floyd. Kanye claimed that Floyd denied of fentanyl, and that Officer Derek Chauvin’s knee wasn’t on Floyd’s neck “like that.”
Following the interview, Attorney Lee Merritt stated on Twitter, that the Floyd family is considering a lawsuit against Kanye. Now, this lawsuit is officially being filed, according to Click2Houston.com. This was filed by the mother of Floyd’s daughter, Roxie Washington, as it is a massive $250 million lawsuit.
A news release was officially published about this lawsuit, fromm Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law. A cease-and-desist letter was also issued to Kanye. The lawsuit states that Kanye made “false statements about George Floyd’s death to promote his brands, and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates.”
“The interests of the child are priority,” Attorney Nuru Witherspoon, partner at The Witherspoon Law Group, said. “George Floyd’s daughter is being traumatized by Kanye West’s comments and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.”
The Drink Champs interview has since been removed by YouTube and Revolt. Many anticipated that this would be the case, due to Kanye’s backlash. He’s also been getting criticized for wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt and appearing on Fox News.
