This, along with Morant’s other behavior, has led to uproar. After the post, Morant was suspended by the NBA. Now, he has Paul Pierce speaking out in his defense.

Paul Pierce always was quietly a controversial player in the NBA. In 2008, Pierce led the Boston Celtics to the NBA’s best record, and the championship. During the Celtics’ first round playoff series, against the Atlanta Hawks, Pierce made a hand gesture. Many people thought this was some type of affiliation. But, Paul Pierce explained that his gesture was a symbol for the Boston Celtics. After that, he had some other moments of controversy.

Paul Pierce watched while Ja Morant got into this social media storm. Ja Morant posted on social media himself holding a weapon. After the social media backlash, the NBA took action. They suspended him for two games. Now, Paul Pierce is speaking out in defense of Morant, given all of the backlash he is facing. Citing his own history, Paul Pierce said Ja Morant is Black and rich, which he said makes him a target.
