Porch pirate nabbed $2,000 in iPhones in daylight heist

A brazen daylight robbery took in Montgomery County, PA. There, a porch pirate snatched a package containing six iPhones, worth thousands, directly from the homeowner’s grasp. The incident was captured on home surveillance. It unfolded rapidly as the thief capitalized on the moment the homeowner, identified only as Henry, was retrieving the package.

As reported by ABC 6, the audacious theft occurred around 3 p.m. Tuesday. When Henry was picking up his delivery, an Amazon driver was making another drop-off. This happened at the same time. The footage shows the thief, donned in a black Guess shirt and a Philadelphia Phillies hat, sprinting towards Henry, snatching the package. After that, fleeing to a waiting tan sedan with tinted windows.

Henry, clearly shaken, recounted to ABC 6 that the vehicle had suspiciously passed by his home just before the theft. He also received a mysterious call immediately after the incident, demanding the return of the stolen phones, adding to the day’s peculiarity.

This theft highlights a growing trend as porch piracy laws in Pennsylvania toughen, with new legislations imposing up to seven years in prison for stealing packages worth over $2,000. In 2023 alone, porch pirates stole approximately $6 billion worth of goods nationwide, a 5% increase from the previous year, with most stolen packages valued at $100 or less.
