Roddy Ricch has been working on his sophomore album as last week, he also got together with Birdman on the song, “STUNNAMAN.” Now, the Compton rapper has come up big this week as well as he just took home a huge award at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards. This event took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
This award is for Hip-Hop Artist of The Year. Roddy had some huge competition in this category as other artists included Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, DaBaby, and the late Pop Smoke. Fans had cases for why each artist here could’ve been the Artist of The Year but in the end, Roddy had so much momentum from the success of his breakout moments at the end of 2020.
What put Roddy on the map heading into 2020 was his “The Box” single, which was released in December 2019. This record was released on his debut studio album, “Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial,” which also released that December. The Box ended up reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is 7x platinum in the US. Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial also hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart and is 2x platinum.
Last week, Roddy also hit 5x platinum status on the song “Ballin.” This appeared on Mustard’s “Perfect Ten” album from the summer of 2019. Ballin ended up peaking at number 11 on the Hot 100.
