Before Tyler Perry, there was Spike Lee, who released a series of films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. While he is no longer in the public eye, as strong as he once was, Spike Lee has not give up on his passion of filmmaking. Spike Lee attended the 2012 Sundance Film Festival last month to premiere his Red Hook Summer film.

Spike Lee may earn his money through making movies, but he has a wide range of interests. During their dominant years in the 1990s, Lee was often seen courtside at New York Knicks’ games. Lee was also revealed to be a hip hop enthusiast, as well. When Jay-Z rose to stardom, he began associating with the famed filmmaker, building a friendship with each other.

During his stay in Utah for the film festival, MTV News caught up with Spike Lee, asking him who he felt should be on the 2012 Hottest MCs in the game list. Among the names Spike Lee felt were deserving were Jay-Z and Kanye West.
