SZA wins Best R&B at MTV VMAs for “Shirt” single

On Tuesday night, the MTV VMAs kicked off, in Newark, NJ. All the festivities kicked off inside the Prudential Center, as it’s becoming a frequent host for the VMAs. Taylor Swift came into the evening with the most nominations for this year, with eight in total. SZA was right next to her, with six nominations.

Furthermore, SZA scored. a very solid win at the VMAs. This was in the Best R&B category, as she earned this for her 2021 “Shirt” single. This record initially peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and is 2x platinum in the US.

Moreover, Shirt also appeared on SZA’s sophomore album, “SOS,” last December. That project saw a number one debut in the US, on the Billboard 200 chart. It spent its first seven weeks at number one, and 11 weeks in total at that top spot. It also marked SZA’s first number one album, as well as her first project since her 2017 debut studio album, “Ctrl.”

On September 20, SZA is also kicking off the second leg of her SOS Tour in North America. That first date will be held in Miami, and the tour will conclude on October 29, in Phoenix. This fall, the deluxe edition of SOS is also coming, which is titled “Lana,” and will have 7-10 songs.
