SZA’s “SOS” becomes first R&B album this century, to spend its first six weeks at number one on Billboard 200 chart

SZA’s “SOS” sets Billboard 200 record after another week at No. 1

This past weekend, SZA’s new sophomore album, “SOS,” officially reached six straight weeks at number one in the US, on the Billboard 200 chart. This was done so by selling over 119,000 additional units. 997,000 units have been sold in total, since its December 9 release.

In addition to remaining at number one for a sixth straight week, SOS has reached several more milestones. According to Chart Data, it now becomes the first R&B album to spend its first six weeks on the Billboard 200 at number one, this century. SOS is also now the longest running Billboard 200 number one album by a female artist released in 2022. As a result, SZA also joins Adele and Taylor Swift as the only female artists in the last decade to have an album spend at least six weeks at number one on the Billboard 200.

SOS contains 23 songs, as it was led by singles such as “Good Days,” “I Hate U,” and “Shirt.” “Kill Bill” and “Snooze” have also since been additional fan-favorites. SZA also collaborated with Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and Phoebe Bridgers on the album. SZA also displayed versatility by experimenting with other genres on SOS, such as with songs including “Low,” “Kill Bill” and “F2F.”
