Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin ink deal for faith films at Netflix

Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin are set to bring new faith-based narratives to Netflix. They signed a multi-year, multi-picture first-look deal with the streaming giant. This partnership promises to blend Perry’s flair for storytelling with Franklin’s expertise in inspirational cinema. Thus, positioning Netflix as a burgeoning hub for spiritually uplifting content.

The collaboration, announced recently, will operate under the auspices of Tyler Perry Studios. Perry, whose diverse portfolio has significantly impacted both cinema and television, expressed his enthusiasm about working alongside Franklin. “In a world that seems to be growing colder every day, we both share the common goal of wanting to spread some good,” Perry stated.

Their first project is “R&B,” penned by Mike Elliott and Cory Tynan. It’s a contemporary adaptation of the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz. Set against the backdrop of Tennessee’s music scene, it tells the story of a young woman finding love while escaping the hectic pace of Atlanta’s music industry. Not only is this film a love story, but also a journey of personal discovery and familial bonds.

Netflix’s VP of film, Niija Kuykendall, highlighted the duo’s track record in faith-based films as a valuable asset to Netflix’s strategy to diversify its portfolio with content that inspires and uplifts.

Franklin, known for his work on films like “Miracles From Heaven” and “Flamin’ Hot,” also shared his excitement about creating content that can inspire global audiences. He said:

“We couldn’t have a better partner than Netflix to help us inspire the world.”

Perry and Franklin’s projects are eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide. Thus, promising to be a significant addition to Netflix’s offering.
