Race shouldn’t matter, especially in 2015, but unfortunately race does matter and is a hot button issue. Ever since the dawn of time, race relations have left more to be desired. Recent years, however, have seen racial-related crimes reach all-time highs.

Such platforms as BET exist solely for equality, or at least they did upon creation. In 2001, BET was acquired by Viacom, but they continue to cater to the African-American audience. However, some have questioned why their award shows prominently feature those outside the race.

Yesterday, another hot button issue rose because of BET. As the 50th anniversary of the Selma, Alabama marches and Bloody Sunday are on the horizon, BET is organizing a concert. One of the performers for this event is Vanilla Ice, who will also partake in the documentary, upsetting many, but executives at BET say he is the perfect choice because of his eagerness to be a part of it.
