Will Smith said White actor spit on him twice filming Emancipation

Will Smith still has the cloud of the Chris Rock incident hanging over his head. It’s been nearly a year since the Oscars slap. Understandably so, Chris Rock still has not responded to Will Smith’s apologies. In the year since, not only has Will Smith said he’s grown, he also filmed Emancipation. Last night, he had his first award show acceptance speech since the incident. During his acceptance speech, Will Smith said an unnamed White actor ended up spitting on him twice when filming. Will said he didn’t retaliate.

Will Smith, prior to the incident, was considered a wholesome, family, man. Despite his family having the “entanglement” issue, Will Smith had a good image. Overall, people associated Will Smith with being a positive person. When he went off on Chris Rock the way he did, Will left people confused. However, his longtime partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff, reminded people of where Will Smith is from. While he does create positive content, Will Smith is from one of Philadelphia’s toughest neighborhood.

Will Smith is still dealing with a lot of backlash over the incident. While he didn’t apologize to Chris Rock, immediately, Will Smith has since offered two public apologies. In addition, he said he watched his mother’s interview, and was saddened by her recounting what happened. So, when Will Smith spoke at the award show, mentioning the actor spitting on him, and said he didn’t do anything, it sparked backlash. People have pointed out how he treated Chris Rock, who didn’t even touch him.
