Wizkid’s “Essence” wins Best Collaboration at BET Awards

The BET Awards are still ongoing in Los Angeles, at the Microsoft Theater. One of the ceremony’s latest awards that was just handed out, is for Best Collaboration

This BET Award win went to Wizkid’s “Essence,” featuring Tems and Wizkid. This is the remix version which features Bieber. The original version of Essence was released in the fall of 2020, with Tems. Tems accepted the award on Wizkid and Bieber’s behalf.

Essence peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and is 2x platinum in the US. Wizkid, Tems, and Bieber beat out nominees such as “Way 2 Sexy” by Drake, Young Thug and Future, and “Kiss Me More,” by Doja Cat and SZA. Essence is also the first Nigerian song to appear in the top 10 of the Hot 100.

Essence originally appeared on Wizkid’s fourth studio album, “Made In Lagos.” That project peaked at number 28, on the Billboard 200. Wizkid and Tems are also both from Nigeria, and have since become two of the biggest international artists out. Tems is also trending for being featured on another major record right now, which is Future’s “Wait For U,” which also includes Drake.
