The music industry is forever changing. No one realizes this more than Jay-Z. So, he got ahead of the curve. First, he used the NBA Finals to promote his new album. Second, he partnered with Samsung, releasing Magna Carta Holy Grail on all Samsung devices. As a result, the album is already platinum. He did this without selling a physical copy of the album. Some have expressed frustration with Jay-Z changing the rules.

While Jay-Z did use his business resources to change the rules, he made history. However, the rap game has changed. It’s been two years since Jay-Z released any music. His last release came in the form of Watch The Throne. That album was a collaborative effort with Kanye West. Two years ago, the landscape was dominated by Lil Wayne and Rick Ross. In 2013, Rich Homie Quan has dominated the summer. As a result, Jay-Z had to do something different to ensure he retained his top spot.

Fortunately, good music still wins out, as Jay-Z does have a radio hit. “Holy Grail,” featuring Justin Timberlake is a certified hit. The song is getting major radio play, more than most of the songs featured on Watch The Throne. In barely a week since its release, the song is all over the place. So, this makes for the perfect time for Jay-Z to break his silence. Recently, he talked to Zane Lowe at BBC Radio 1 to explain his latest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.
