On Sunday night, the 2021 Billboard Music Awards took place outside of Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Weeknd was the most-nominated artist of the night with 16 awards, as he then took home 10. DaBaby was the second-most nominated with 11.
DaBaby ended up winning one award for Top Rap Song, which was his Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping “Rockstar” single, featuring Roddy Ricch. DaBaby beat out 24kGoldn, Cardi B, Jack Harlow, and Megan Thee Stallion for this award. When DaBaby hit the stage to accept the award though, there was a very awkward moment.
When DaBaby arrived, the BBMAs was playing Post Malone’s 2017 “Rockstar” single, instead of DaBaby’s version. The two stars appeared to brush this off though, as they seemed to simply be happy to score the victory. Many did notice on social media though, which had many wondering who caused this error.
DaBaby’s “Rockstar” also appeared on his third studio album, “Blame It On Baby,” which also released in April 2020. That project debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and became the Charlotte rapper’s second number one.
