Drake and 21 Savage sued for using Vogue covers as album promo
Last week, Drake and Takeoff released their highly anticipated joint album, “Her Loss.” This contained 16 new tracks, including a collaboration with Travis Scott. Her Loss is already on pace to easily debut at number one, on the Billboard 200 chart.
Drake and 21 definitely had some interesting promotion, ahead of Her Loss. They used NPR Tiny Desk skits, as well as one that resembled “Saturday Night Live.” That skit even had 21 and Drake be introduced by Michael B. Jordan.
21 and Drake also used them on Vogue covers, to promote Her Loss. These looked so authentic, that many fans believed that they actually appeared on an actual cover of the iconic magazine. However, Vogue doesn’t like that this went down.
According to TMZ, Drake and 21 are being sued for this, as $4 million in damages are being sought for, as well as the end of this promotion. Vogue owner Condé Nast and Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour “have not endorsed [“Her Loss”] in any way.” They even supposedly asked all Vogue promotions to be removed, but didn’t happen.
Nast added that Drake and 21’s teams also sent out emails, stating that copies of the Vogue cover would be handed out. A photoshopped image of Wintour with Drake is also seen in the replica magazine.
Sources close to Drake tell TMZ that his team is both “surprised and confused” by the lawsuit. This is due to others such as Howard Stern and NPR welcoming this type of promotion.
