Michael Jackson’s estate may sell catalog for almost $900 million

To this day, Michael Jackson is regarded by many, as the greatest artist of all-time. His legacy started as a young child in the 1970s, as he went on to release plenty of classic records and albums, over the course of three decades. Jackson went on to pass away in 2009, at the age of 50.

However, Jackson’s estate is reportedly in negotiations to sell his music catalog for a massive price, according to Variety. Sources state that the estate is looking to sell selling half of its interests, for between $800-$900 million.

Sony and and another partner are in this negotiation to acquire 50% of the Jackson’s estate’s interests in his publishing, recorded-music revenues, the “MJ: The Musical” Broadway show and the new biopicMichael,” which is currently in pre-production. If this deal is done, it would become the biggest deal ever, in the catalog market.

Major artists’ catalogs being sold for huge prices have been a common trend lately. Among them include current superstars such as Justin Bieber and Future. It’ll be interesting to see if estates of even more legends will make moves such as these, as well.
