In the past, Russell Simmons has turned down reality television. He felt that there was not a need for it. Simmons frequently appears on “Run’s House” and he also made frequent appearances on Kimora Lee’s reality show.
Russell Simmons has used these appearances to discuss some of the new projects that he has been working on. Even in his lone appearance on “Gotti’s Way” was able to give Simmons a chance to discuss his new projects. In other words, Russell Simmons was able to promote himself without giving up too much.
Perhaps that has not been enough for the Def Jam founder. He is giving the people a much-anticipated look into his world with “The Russell Simmons Project.” Simmons has frequently stated that he has surrounded himself with people who are smarter than he is.
With this show, Russell Simmons will show exactly how he built his Def Jam empire. He did it with his company being ran almost entirely by women. This comes as a slight shock, since hip hop is dominated by such names as Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, and Diddy.
“The Russell Simmons Project” will begin airing in the summer of 2010 on Oxygen.
