SZA’s manager says he pulled her MTV VMAs performance after SZA wasn’t nominated for Artist Of The Year

SZA’s manager explains why she didn’t attend & perform at VMAs

SZA has had an epic past 12 months, including releasing a Billboard 200 chart-topping album in “SOS.” This was her sophomore album, and also marked the first number one album of her career. Moreover, it was also SZA’s first project since her 2017 debut studio album, “Ctrl.”

Furthermore, SZA was also supposed to perform at the MTV VMAs, last weekend. She didn’t attend, despite being nominated for six awards. Her “Shirt” single also took home the award for Best R&B.

As a result, more clarity is being made on SZA’s absence. SZA’s manager Terrence “Punch” Henderson told The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t attend the event, as well as didn’t perform, due to her not receiving a nomination in the Artist Of The Year category. For Punch, he asked “Why go perform and do this if she’s not going to be respected to the highest level?”

“Obviously, she had one of the best years, if not the best year, of any artist at this point, Punch added. “I don’t see why she wouldn’t be nominated for artist of the year. It just really didn’t make any sense to me. It’s disrespectful,”

Friday was also a big day for SZA. She released acoustic version of her buzzing “Snooze” single with Justin Bieber, who initially appeared in the video for the original song. SZA was also featured on Drake’s new “Slime You Out” single, which dropped at noon.
