TDE President Punch addresses delay of SZA’s album

It’s been over five years now, since fans have received an album from SZA. That was her debut studio album, “Ctrl,” which was released back in June 2017. That project is regarded as a classic, as SZA ended up releasing eight new songs, this summer, as a Ctrl” deluxe, to celebrate the five-year anniversary. Ctrl initially debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and is currently 3x platinum in the US.

In July, SZA also revealed on Twitter, that the delay in her sophomore album is on Top Dawg Entertainment President Punch, now. SZA also added that RCA Records delayed this release. SZA initially wanted this project to be released at some point, this summer.

“It’s 100% Punch and RCA on this one,” SZA explained. “I wanted the summer. They wanted more time.”

However, Punch is now speaking on SZA’s album being delayed, as he’s glad that the fans want it so much, and enjoy SZA’s music. He discussed this topic, on Math Hoffa’s “My Expert Opinion Podcast.”

“I respect fans that demand it because it was obvious something was said that touched their lives to where they wanted it this bad.”

“You only get so many characters when you’re tweeting and people get a whole story and run with it,” Punch added. “What I always like to ask is what do I gain from not putting the album out?”
