The Weeknd donates $2M to aid Gaza, Boosts WFP food efforts

The Weeknd continues his humanitarian efforts with a generous donation of $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to the World Food Programme’s (WFP) response in Gaza. This significant contribution will provide over 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour. It will be sufficient to produce more than 18 million loaves of bread, feeding over 157,000 Palestinians for a month.

This latest donation follows his initial $2.5 million contribution in December 2023. That donation supported the distribution of 820 metric tons of food parcels across Gaza. Also, it aided over 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks. As a WFP Goodwill Ambassador, The Weeknd is actively calling on his fans to support WFP’s critical efforts in the region.

With over a million Palestinians facing dire levels of hunger, the urgency of this support cannot be overstated. Not only will he WFP’s efforts in Gaza include the distribution of essential food supplies, but also it will include the reactivation of local food systems. Efforts have been intensified, with recent expansions in food deliveries to northern Gaza and support for community kitchens aiming to serve hot meals daily.

Corinne Fleischer, WFP’s Director for the Middle East, expressed deep gratitude for The Weeknd’s ongoing commitment. She emphasized the critical impact of his advocacy and donations in alleviating the severe hunger crisis in Gaza.
