Nia Long seeks protection from alleged female stalker for showing up at her home
Nia Long Requests Court Protection From Woman Accused Of Stalking
Being a celebrity can be both rewarding and frightening. Fame brings admiration, recognition, and opportunities—but it can also attract unwanted attention. For public figures, privacy is often limited, and sometimes fans cross boundaries that put personal safety at risk.
That reality recently became personal for legendary actress Nia Long. The beloved star is reportedly seeking court protection from a woman she claims has been stalking and harassing her for years.
According to reports, Long filed legal documents requesting a temporary restraining order after the woman allegedly showed up at her Los Angeles home under the belief that the two were romantically involved.
Nia Long’s legendary career in film and television
For decades, Nia Long has been one of the most recognizable and beloved actresses in Black cinema.
Born Nia Talita Long on October 30, 1970, she rose to prominence in the early 1990s during a pivotal moment in Hollywood.
Long gained early fame for her role in the classic film Boyz n the Hood (1991), which became a defining movie in the era of socially conscious Black storytelling.
Around the same time, she also became a household name through her role as Lisa Wilkes on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where she starred opposite Will Smith.
Throughout the 1990s, Long continued to build a strong résumé with roles in several iconic films including:
- Friday (1995)
- Love Jones (1997)
- Soul Food (1997)
Her performances helped cement her status as one of the most influential actresses of the decade.
Nia Long files restraining order request against alleged stalker
Nia Long reportedly went to court Monday seeking a temporary restraining order against a woman identified as Carrie McDonald.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Long claims the woman has been harassing her for more than two years. The actress says she does not know McDonald but describes her as a stalker who has repeatedly attempted to contact her.
According to the filing, Long alleges that McDonald has sent numerous unwanted gifts including flowers, cards, and other packages over the years. The situation escalated when the woman allegedly began showing up at Long’s home.
Long claims McDonald appeared at her residence on two separate occasions. Most recently, the woman allegedly rang the actress’s doorbell on Saturday, prompting Long to contact authorities. Police were reportedly called to the scene, and the woman was arrested.
Previous incident allegedly occurred in the middle of the night
The recent encounter was not the first time the situation turned alarming.
According to Long’s court filing, the same woman previously appeared outside her home during the night in 2024. The actress claims the woman demanded that she open the door.
Police responded to the incident and issued what Long described as a “strong warning” to the woman at that time. However, the warning apparently did not stop the alleged behavior.
After the second visit to Long’s home, authorities reportedly arrested the woman.
Judge denies temporary restraining order pending hearing
Despite Long’s request for immediate legal protection, the court has not yet issued the restraining order.
Long reportedly asked the judge to grant protection not only for herself but also for her two children and her mother.
However, the judge denied the temporary restraining order request for now.
Instead, the court scheduled a hearing in April to further review the case and determine whether the restraining order should be granted.
Until that hearing takes place, the legal situation remains unresolved.
Major roles and awards throughout her career
Nia Long continued to thrive in Hollywood through the late 1990s and early 2000s. She appeared in several successful films including The Best Man (1999) and Big Momma’s House (2000).
Her television career also flourished. Long starred in the crime drama Third Watch from 2003 to 2005, a role that earned her an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
Over the years, she has appeared in several other notable television projects including:
- Empire
- NCIS: Los Angeles
More recently, Long reprised her role as Jordan Armstrong in The Best Man: The Final Chapters, a Peacock series continuation of the beloved film franchise.
She also starred in the Netflix psychological thriller Fatal Affair in 2020.
Outside of acting, Long has contributed creatively to music and entertainment projects as well.
She made a cameo appearance in the music video for Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky” and directed Yolanda Adams’s video “This Too Shall Pass.”
Personal life and relationship history
In her personal life, Long has also faced highly publicized challenges.
She began dating former NBA player Ime Udoka in 2010, and the couple welcomed a son together in 2011. Long also has an older son from a previous relationship. The pair became engaged in 2015 but never married.
Despite the public attention surrounding that situation, Long has remained focused on her career and family.
Dangerous celebrity encounters with fans
Unfortunately, Long’s situation reflects a broader problem that many celebrities face. While most fans express admiration respectfully, there have been several cases where obsession turned dangerous.
Dave Chappelle attacked on stage
Comedian Dave Chappelle also experienced a dangerous fan encounter during a live performance. In 2022, a man ran onto the stage during Chappelle’s stand-up show and tackled the comedian.
Chappelle briefly wrestled with the attacker before security intervened. Police later discovered the suspect had a knife in his possession when he was arrested. The shocking incident sparked debates about safety at public events and the increasing risks entertainers face during live performances.
Sandra Bullock’s terrifying stalker break-in
Academy Award-winning actress Sandra Bullock faced a chilling encounter with a stalker in 2014.
A man who had been writing her letters broke into her home while she was inside. Bullock locked herself in a room and called police as authorities rushed to the scene. The incident left the actress shaken and sparked renewed conversations about celebrity security.
Justin Bieber assassination plot
Pop star Justin Bieber was once the target of an even more disturbing plan. A man named Dana Martin—already serving two life sentences for the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl—allegedly attempted to hire two accomplices to kidnap, castrate, and kill Bieber.
The plot was ultimately foiled by authorities. Investigators later revealed that Martin had a tattoo of Bieber and had previously tried to contact the singer, suggesting an obsessive fixation that escalated into a violent scheme.
Rihanna home incident
While details surrounding the event remain limited, the incident highlighted how quickly celebrity admiration can turn into a serious safety concern.
The darker side of celebrity fame
While fame often brings admiration and support from fans around the world, it also carries unique risks.
Public figures frequently become the focus of intense fascination, and in rare cases, that attention can cross into obsession.
For many celebrities, security measures, privacy protections, and legal safeguards like restraining orders become necessary tools to maintain personal safety.
Nia Long’s situation highlights the emotional and legal challenges that can arise when boundaries are crossed.
As the case moves toward its April hearing, the court will ultimately decide whether Long will receive the protection she requested.
For now, the situation serves as another reminder that even Hollywood icons must sometimes take legal steps to protect their safety and their families.
